Malcolm Harker carries tainted blood from his great-grandmother Mina. She was forced to drink Dracula's blood, and the evil inherent in it was passed along to her descendents. At least that is what Malcolm's grandfather, Quincy, tells him. Quincy sees his grandson beginning to suffer afflictions with which he too had wrestled aversion to sunlight, energy peaks at night, and a longing for human blood. Adherence to Christian tenets, specifically the taking of holy communion, is the only way to keep the evil at bay, says the grandfather. He also insists that Bram Stoker wrote the truth. Malcolm is not sure what to believe, so with two friends he sets sail for England. Using Stoker's Dracula as their guide they trace people and places and find to their growing horror that Quincy is right. What is worse, they come to realize that the blood of Dracula, who was in life Vlad the Impaler, is stronger than any of them had imagined. |
